Bali: Ubud Area (Sept 1-5)

We believe there are many beautiful places in the world, but after only a few days, we also believe Bali, and particularly the area of Ubud, stand out. While things have started to finally slow down for Tracy and I, we have still had time to see beautiful countryside rice patties, tour stunning mountain lake side temples, dine on fantastic cuisine (even if it is a little less spicy than Javanese food), try Kung Fu Yoga (yeah that is right Paul), get lost in a maze in the local botanical gardens, relax for a few hours in a spa, do some shopping, feed some monkies and take in a traditional Kecak Fire dance (Love, you would have enjoyed it). This place really is fantastic, and things just seem to be easy here, especially once you learn how to negotiate. The great service combined with the current exchange rate (~9100 Indonesian Rupiahs to 1 US Dollar) makes everyone feel like a millionare. We've been sleeping late, enjoying long lunches and jetting around Ubud on our motorbike ($5/day...Wow!). We could write more, but we'll let the pictures do more of the talking this time.

We are off for Ahmed soon, a sleeping fishing village on the northeast shore where we can hang on the beach and enjoy some fantastic diving and snorkeling. Lombok is up after than, and as it is even more remote, we may not be writing for awhile.

Pura Vida,
Tyler & Tracy

I hope you get to see the Broadclub Cuttlefish before you leave Indonesia. Ask a local to take you on a search for them. They are amazing but hard to find. They also don't live in the Americas, so if you want to see one in the wild, now is your chance.

Oh, two more things:
I miss Tyler.
I miss Tracy.

love.

So sorry that it has taken us so long to send you a message. I (Emily) am always looking at your blog and am amazed by the pictures you have. What wonderful memories you must be making. When I am at work, I have to show everyone your blog and they are awestruck by the sights and experiences you are seeing and having. We are so happy for you and can’t wait to talk to you again to be able to hear about everything you are experiencing. I think the pictures and the words are wonderful, but to sit and see our facial expressions when you speak of this time will be the best part for us. You both have become great photographers!

This seems to be the best way to talk to you both, so I will let you know what we have been up to hear back in Oklahoma. We are currently are getting the remnants of hurricane Ike. It is not causing much, but some winds and a ton of rain. Conley has learned that she doesn’t want something, but she “needs it!” We are going to Dallas in a couple of weeks for a surprise party for Scott’s 40th birthday and Ashley’s 21st birthday. It always seems to be a lively party with that group, and hopefully no one gets arrested! I have much more to tell you, however I know your time is limited.

Tyler, I hope you are able to do an absentee ballot for the presidential race. I have been teaching Conley all about politics the past couple of months. She still is not taking to saying “Obama”, but she is saying “Republican….bluhhhhh.”

Take care and keep the great pictures and blogs coming. We all miss and love you both……XOXOXO, Emily, Richie and Conley
